The all-new PEUGEOT 208 has been awarded the ‘Little Legend’ award at the 2019 carwow New Car of the Year Awards. This joins a number of other accolades bestowed on the PEUGEOT brand this year, including the recent JD Power awards for ‘Most Reliable Brand’ and ‘Most Reliable Small Car’ presented for the outgoing 208.
The all-new PEUGEOT 208 impressed carwow’s panel of judges with its stylish design, premium feel, and distinctive driving experience, beating a host of rivals including the Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio, Volkswagen Polo and the Toyota Yaris to take home the trophy.
Judges also praised the all-new PEUGEOT 208 for its spacious interior, which has rivals beaten on both design and technology. The all-new 208 was also the only vehicle in the category shortlist available with a choice of powertrains: 100% electric, petrol or diesel.
Mat Watson, Editorial Director at carwow, said: “This may be a small car, but it’s the best new small car. Look at it. It’s cool. And it’s lovely on the inside, too. Just think how boring Polo, Fiesta and Yaris are by comparison. Oh, and it drives nice too. And is reasonably spacious. It’s ace. Plus there’s a pure electric model which has a range of 217 miles and is also ace. Oh and did I say it looked cool.”
The all-new 208 is the first vehicle to fulfil PEUGEOT’s new philosophy of ‘choose your PEUGEOT, choose your powertrain’. Available with an efficient line-up of diesel and petrol powertrains or as a 100% electric model, the all-new e-208. The all-new PEUGEOT e-208 uses a 50kWh battery and is capable of 217 miles (WLTP) from a single charge.
The all-new 208 is available in Active, Allure and GT Line trim levels, with the e-208 also available in range-topping GT trim. The all-new 208 comes with the latest-generation 3D PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® with a compact multifunction steering wheel, a configurable 3D head-up display and either a 7” or 10” HD colour touchscreen. Also included is PEUGEOT Connect SOS and Assistance, Adaptive Cruise Control (according to version) with Stop & Go function, Lane Positioning Assist and Mirror Screen® with Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto and MirrorLink® connectivity.
David Peel, Managing Director of PEUGEOT UK, said: “We’ve only just launched the all-new PEUGEOT 208, but it is clearly set for success given the positive reviews, and now award wins, it has already earned. We’ve got high expectations for the all-new PEUGEOT 208 and are very pleased to have carwow recognise it as the best small car available to buyers today. This is our first, new generation model to offer an electrified powertrain. By 2023, all our vehicles, including vans, will have either a full electric of plug-in hybrid electric powertrain.”
